Refreshed guestrooms at the Hotel del Coronado feature upholstered headboards.
CORONADO, CA—The historic Hotel del Coronado completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of its 368 guestrooms and suites in the original 124-year-old Victorian building.
Conceived by Looney & Associates, the design is contemporary with historical and regional references and the recreated guestrooms reflect the natural style of the beachfront resort. The art palette consists of soft creams and grays with pops of cool lilacs, ocean blues and warm peaches, reflecting the colors found in the surrounding Glorietta Bay and Coronado Island environment.
The design references the historical relevance of the property with Victorian-era motifs utilized in fabrics, textures and geometric forms. The new furnishings are constructed of natural materials such as woven leathers and wools, embroidered patterns and woods such as teak and cerused walnut. The sea fan and capiz shell shadowboxes are real framed artifacts. Photography by Jim Laser of antique wooden boats references the history of the property while abstract paintings of the shoreline add a perspective to the ocean view.
The guestrooms also feature 42-inch, flat screen televisions, upholstered headboards and executive desks with high-speed Internet access. Many of the guestrooms include separate seating areas with views of the Pacific Ocean, Glorietta Bay and Coronado Island.
Hotel del Coronado is located on 28 oceanfront acres on Coronado Island. Built in 1888 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977, The Del will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2013.
Todd Shallan serves as VP/general manager of the property.
