GSTAAD, SWITZERLAND—The Alpina Gstaad, the newest five-star hotel to open here in 100 years, has been accepted as a member of Preferred Boutique, a collection of intimate hotels and resorts and a brand of Preferred Hotel Group.

Lindsey Ueberroth, president/ Preferred Hotel Group, said, “This elite Switzerland property and the leadership of Managing Director Niklaus Leuenberger will raise the bar on luxury and truly exemplify the Preferred Boutique brand."

Set on five acres in Oberbort, The Alpina Gstaad overlooks the village which is nestled in Saanenland in the heart of the Bernese Alps. Part of a $337-million luxury development, The Alpina Gstaad has three restaurants featuring traditional Swiss, international and Asian cuisines, a bar and lounge, a wine-tasting room, a private cinema, a cigar room, a ballroom and several boardrooms. The 21,500-sq.-ft. spa will offer holistic treatments and rejuvenation programs and will include a hammam, a fitness center and an 82-foot lap pool. A large outdoor swimming pool will be set in the gardens. The hotel’s 56 rooms and suites—all with balconies—range from 333 sq.ft. for a standard room to 4,305 sq. ft. for the two-level Panorama Suite.

The property is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Swiss architecture incorporating local materials and Alpine style. Massive blocks of Ringgenberg limestone from local quarries have been hand carved for the entrance and ground floor. Hundred-year-old fir wood, gathered from old Alpine farm houses, decorates the façade and lines the walls of the public rooms. The gabled roof, embellished with dormers and peaks, is of natural slate. The ground floor’s windows allow for natural light and views of the surrounding mountains.

With more than 850 hotels and resorts in 70 countries, Preferred Hotel Group represents six distinctive brands: Preferred Hotels & Resorts, Preferred Boutique, Summit Hotels & Resorts, Sterling Hotels, Sterling Design and Preferred Residences.
