NAGASAKI, JAPAN—Hotel Okura JR Huis Ten Bosch here is the newest addition to luxury hotel group Okura Hotels & Resorts.

The hotel is next to Huis Ten Bosch, a theme park and resort built to resemble a mediaeval 17th century Dutch town. Located in Kyushu, Japan’s southernmost island, Nagasaki has an historical tie to the Netherlands going back to the 1600s.

The hotel opened as ANA Hotel JR Huis Ten Bosch 17 years ago and has now been rebranded as a five-star Okura Hotels & Resorts hotel.

Hotel Okura JR Huis Ten Bosch has been undergoing major renovations, updating and upgrading all 320 guestrooms. Dining facilities also will be rebranded and renovated. The hotel will be operating throughout the renovations, which will be completed by March 2013.

Okura Hotels & Resorts was established in 1978 and is owned and managed by Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. The group, which has 23 hotels with a total of 7,326 guestrooms, plans to open a new 208-room hotel in Taipei and a 240-room hotel in Bangkok this year.

Hotel Okura Co., Ltd., founded in 1958, opened its flagship hotel, Hotel Okura Tokyo, in 1962. The company recently acquired the majority of shares of JAL Hotels Co., Ltd., which operates the Nikko Hotels International and Hotel JAL City groups
