Guestroom of Homewood Suites by Hilton's new Gen 9 prototype
MEMPHIS, TN–Homewood Suites by Hilton has rolled out its latest prototype, which allows the upscale, extended-stay brand to target more urban locations.
The Gen 9 plan reduces the land area needed to build a Homewood by roughly 20 percent and the overall building area by about 12 percent. Similarly, construction costs are reduced by 10 percent-to-15 percent. Overall, Gen 9 is intended to save developers 4 percent-to-6 percent per key. At the same time, most public spaces as defined by the prototype are no smaller than in the existing prototype, while certain public areas like the fitness center are actually larger in the new scheme.
The first Homewood built to the new specifications is scheduled to open in Joplin, MO, by year-end.
